A Discipleship Guide

Dear Friend, Welcome!

I’m so glad you are here. You will be truly blessed because God loves you deeply. He knows you by name, and you are very important to Him.

You have called out to Jesus for salvation, repented, and believe that Jesus is God’s Son who gave His life for you so your sins could be forgiven. You are now reconciled to God—you are His child! God wants you to know what it means to be His child. That’s why He gave Jesus—who did everything necessary so God could have you back as His own. He loves you!

You can now know God as your loving Father.

God’s invitation is for everyone—Jew and Gentile, from every nation and background.

I have written this to help you grow in your relationship with God—your loving Father, with Jesus, and with the wonderful Holy Spirit. You are now part of God’s family. You belong!

— Nico Saaiman

This Guide

This study is designed to help you understand what it truly means to be saved—born again—and how to walk in obedience to God as you grow in your new identity and life in Christ.

“You will grow deeper in your walk with God through discipleship at a loving, Bible-believing church—”It is crucial to be part of a Bible-based church that stands firmly on God’s Word without compromise. As a believer, you are now part of God’s family—loved, accepted, and called to grow together with others in His truth.”

What happened:
God loved you so much that even when you were lost in sin, He sent Jesus to die for you and make you alive again.

Who you were:
You were separated from God, spiritually dead, following your own sinful desires, and under God’s judgment.

Who you are now:
Because of Jesus, you are alive spiritually, forgiven, and now guided by the Holy Spirit. You belong to God’s family and have God’s power to live for Him—a new life full of purpose.

Understanding Your New Life and Identity – The New You!

When you gave your life to Jesus, everything changed. Here is what God’s Word says about your new identity:

Read:

  • John 1:12 — “Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”
➤ You are now a child of God.
  • Ephesians 1:7 — “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.”
➤ You are forgiven and redeemed.
  • Romans 8:1 — “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
➤ You are no longer condemned.

Reflect:

  • What has changed now that you’re “in Christ”?
  • How does your identity affect the way you live?

1. Water Baptism – A Step of Obedience

Water baptism is a public declaration of your faith in Jesus Christ. It is an outward symbol of the inward change that has taken place in your heart. When you are baptized, you identify with Jesus in His death, burial, and resurrection. It is an important step of obedience that follows salvation—not a requirement for salvation, but a powerful testimony that you now belong to Christ.

“Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins…”
—Acts 2:38

“Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead… even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
—Romans 6:3–4

Key Points:

  • Baptism is for believers—after you’ve put your faith in Jesus.
  • It symbolizes dying to your old life and rising to a new life in Christ.
