God’s Love and Salvation Revealed
John 3:16 Explained Step by Step
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
— John 3:16 (NASB)
This single verse captures the heart of the Gospel — God’s plan of salvation for every person. Let’s break it down step by step:
1. “For God so loved the world…”
It all starts with love.
God is not angry or distant — He loves the world. That includes every nation, every person, and you. His love is the reason He acted.
“God is love.” – 1 John 4:8
2. “…that He gave His only begotten Son…”
Love gives.
God’s love moved Him to give the most precious gift — His only Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus was not just a teacher or prophet; He is the Son of God, sent to save us from sin and death by dying in our place.
“God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8
3. “…that whoever believes in Him…”
The gift must be received.
This promise is for everyone — young or old, rich or poor. All you must do is believe in Jesus: trust Him as your Saviour, believe He died for your sins, and surrender your life to Him.
“To all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” – John 1:12
4. “…shall not perish…”
Sin leads to death — separation from God.
But those who believe in Jesus will not perish. God promises to rescue us from eternal separation and judgment.
“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23
5. “…but have eternal life.”
This is the greatest promise of all: eternal life.
Not just life after death, but a new life now — full of purpose, peace, and the presence of God — and forever with Him in heaven.
“Now this is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” – John 17:3
